V1’s 6th Demo Day was held earlier this December, where our Product Studio Cohort, Build Blue participants, and community builders presented what they’ve been up to this semester. Here’s how it went 🚀
Our special guests 🎯
Zell Lurie Institute, a University of Michigan-affiliated organization building leaders in entrepreneurship and venture investing
Hank, the founder of LeapYear, a VC fund in Chicago that backs students to build something truly ambitious in a year (taking the leap year)
UpRound Ventures, Michigan’s premier student-run VC club
Catherine from Dorm Room Fund, the nation’s most prestigious VC firm built for college founders
Partners from Contrary (shoutout UMich’s very own Cooper), a top-tier vc firm with million dollar+ checks
Bullmont Capital, a student-run venture studio giving 10k checks to help young founders go from the dorm room to the board room
Scouts from Soma Capital, an early stage venture fund investing in early stage software and technology
The pitches 🥁
Demo Day consisted of a total of 11 pitches — 6 from Product Studio and 5 from Build Blue & our community. Each of these teams spent the past month ideating, iterating, and scaling a product or company that solves a real-world problem. Building is hard, but these exceptional students had the courage to take a leap of faith and try 🛠️

The winners 🏆
🥇 Our first place winner is Milieu, a startup giving you personalized skincare tips! Not only did they win Demo Day, they also received $40K from LeapYear to spend the year building out their company!
🥈 In second place is Altrix, which helps healthcare workers automate patient charting.
🥉 Our third place prize goes to QuickSync, a platform to make invoicing simpler for contractors.

Calling all builders!
Hatch by Foundess is a 6-week free accelerator where you can build, get feedback, and iterate alongside hundreds of others. You will get mentorship from industry leaders, founders, and VCs. Top teams are flown to San Francisco for an in-person summit, and prizes are up to $20k.
