Hey there đ€,
Happy Martin Luther King Jrâs Day and last day before the start of the classes! We hope you enjoyed your break and are ready for an action-packed semester!
Before we dive into all the exciting events and opportunities at Michigan, weâre beyond excited to let you know this newsletter will be weekly, and while the structure will change, we promise itâll be bigger and better!
Donât fret - itâll still include curated opportunities, but will also feature upcoming events, a recap of past events for those who couldnât make them, member spotlights, and much more đ
See you in your inboxes every Monday!
Also, weâd be remiss if we didnât mention our new Twitter account. Follow us for the latest updates! (also, we follow back đ)
Last, but not least, the V1 community is growing quickly everyday. If you want to be introduced to a new member every few weeks for 1:1 chats, sign up at our Intros link here. đ (Bonus: Intros was founded by Michigan student, David Kobrosky).
Upcoming V1 Events
We've got some exciting events coming up, including a fireside chat with Michigan alum and co-founder of LineLeap (YC S19) đ All these events will take place in our Discord channel. Add our calendar here so you don't miss out!
Join us for Maker Monday tonight to learn, get feedback, and collaborate with other members of the V1 Community. Bring any projects, prototypes, or ideas that you want to discuss! Or feel free to just listen in.
Tuesday at 9 pm, Nick Becker, co-founder of LineLeap (YC S19) is joining us for a fireside chat to talk about starting a company, going through YC, and pivoting his company due to COVID-19. LineLeap creates a âfast passâ option for popular venues allowing users to skip long lines at their favorite bars and nightclubs.
V1 Community Recap (Jan 10th - 16th)
If you couldnât make it to last weekâs events youâre in luck because weâve summed them up below
At our weekly Maker Mondays, V1 Member Sean Stapleton, presented his idea for a new messaging app: one that organizes messages based on person and on topic! If this sounds intriguing, reach out to Sean!
Tuesday, Jan 12th, Zeke Bronfman, co-founder of XED Beverages and a college student, stopped by to discuss what itâs like to start an alcoholic beverage company before he was able to legally drink, lessons learned from partnering with retailers for distribution, and raising millions from VCs.
On Friday, Gaby Goldberg joined us to dish her thoughts on all things VC: how to break in, her thoughts on the pre-seed/seed stage, the future of consumer tech, her hot takes on clubhouse and more! V1 Member Abdullah Nauman was kind enough to compile takeaways from Gabyâs chat here!
And as always our Discord was filled with exciting conversations about new product ideas!
